Barbara’s Story

Barbara is a Volunteer Client Advocate & Abortion Recovery Group Leader at Lakes Area Pregnancy Support Center.

Here is her story:

My church introduced me to Lakes Area Pregnancy Support about 10 years ago. I tucked the LAPS flier into my Bible and forgot about them until 6 months later, when it fell out. I called LAPS and started the training process to become a client advocate.

In order to complete my training to meet one on one with clients, I knew that I would have to deal with my past, but I did not want to relive it with anyone! It took me a couple of training sessions before I could muster up the courage to confess that I have had 3 abortions. I thought I had already worked through this painful past, by confessing to God and asking for forgiveness, but God was not finished with me yet.

By sharing my deepest visceral secrets with compassionate women while participating in the Forgiven & Set Free Bible Study, I was able to walk through a tough journey with love, encouragement, and support. I now understand that one of the reasons that I am at LAPS is to help others who may be going through the same type of struggles that I have been through.
